CODE OF CONDUCT
To ensure a friendly Out of Character (OOC) community and an enjoyable role-playing experience we ask that you follow our rules and respect our guidelines. If you have any questions or concerns with what you read below, feel free to contact a member of the Moderating Staff. All of the information contained on this page is considered a must-read for all current and prospective members.
GENERAL RULES

Although we encourage debating and discussions among members, we will not tolerate any personal attacks, rude or insulting posts, or inflammatory posts or replies. The decisions we make regarding these posts are final.​
  • Extend respect, kindness and understanding to one another whenever possible.​
  • One word posts, agreements or disagreements without a qualifying statement, will not be tolerated.​
  • Replying to bump your thread is not allowed. Replying when the last post or reply is your own is only accepted in the stated forum(s).​
  • Advertising, spamming, or creating posts purposely to inflame others (trolling) or to promote a contest(s) is not allowed. This also applies to email, personal conversations, profiles, and signatures.​
  • Posts and replies that are sexually explicit are not allowed in the OOC forums. Our Moderating Staff members are the designated arbitrators on what does or does not violate our community standards.​
  • Discussion of illegal activity such as software/music/video piracy, and other intellectual property violations, is prohibited.​
  • Each member is asked to create no more than 3 accounts to start with. The only exception will be made for the Administrators, Super Moderators, or other designated Staff. You may register additional accounts after the first 30 days of your first application being accepted. We ask this so that players do not end up stretching themselves too thin by having to play too many characters simultaneously.​
  • We reserve the right to remove offensive posts without warning.​
Although these rules cover most common situations, they can not anticipate everything. Consequently we reserve the right to take any actions we deem appropriate to ensure these forums are not abused or disrupted in any way. An expanded article on Site Guidelines may by found by clicking HERE.​



GUIDELINES & DEFINITIONS

Spamming
Spamming is considered as posting a meaningless topic, off-topic replies, one or two word replies, quoting text to agree or disagree without a qualifying statement, or making numerous replies to the same topic one after the other in a short period of time. As the definition of spamming can be argumentative, some leeway may be tolerated; however, we ask that you refrain from doing so.​

Flaming
Flaming of a member, or group of members, making personal attacks, or statements we feel are slanderous to another member, group, or organization, will not be tolerated in our forum. We reserve the right to edit out any text we feel is inappropriate.​

Use of Foul Language
The Foul Language filter is off and shall remain so as we understand there are occasions when no other word can portray a feeling or emotion, or generate the impact you are trying to describe. We ask that you use such words with discretion, as there are members of varying ages, and moral values, that may be reading your replies.​

In Character vs. Out Of Character
EREBOS RP consists of two types of forums: IC & OOC. Please take note of each category designation and post accordingly. Your IC replies will be made on behalf of the character(s) you are portraying, and OOC replies will represent you, the person/community member. OOC boards should never contain IC replies (or vice versa), with the exception of Site Staff posting to the effect of maintaining appropriate atmosphere of the site.​

God Modding
"God Modding" is, in essence, when a player’s character has the ability to do practically anything without set limits or boundaries.​

Metagaming
Metagaming is an "out of character" action where a player's character makes use of knowledge that the player is aware of but that the character is not meant to be aware of.​

Double Posting
Double posting is defined as two or more consecutive replies to the same topic made by the same member. If you have made a double post by accident, make note on the bottom asking a Moderator to remove it - or PM a member of the Staff with a similar request.​

Signatures
Member signatures must not contain links to sites we find inappropriate or unlawful. Your signature may contain a link to another fantasy setting, non-adult orientated (aka, pornography-related), site or forum. Administrators must approve links to any other site or forum you wish to contain in your signature.​

Avatars
Avatars must closely reflect the setting of this site and/or be a depiction of the character you are portraying. Limits on avatar sizes are posted in the upload form; should your image end up being too large, it will be automatically re-sized.​

In-line Images
EREBOS forums permits its members the use of images, whether they be uploaded as an attachment or remotely hosted by reputable companies (such as IMGUR, FLICKR, etc.). Your images must not be linked to any URL that hosts inappropriate or illegal material. Any such image found in violation of this rule will be summarily deleted.​




JOINING EREBOS RP

By joining EREBOS RP you agree that your account(s) and posts can be removed at the discretion of the Staff, if found in gross violation of our community rules & guidelines. As a member, you retain the copyright of all forum content authored by you. No one but you will have access to your account and you will never be asked for your username or password by any member of our Staff.​


Respecting Our Rules
Participating at EREBOS RP community is not a right, but a privilege, and we ask that you respect the rules contained herein. Although you may not always agree with the Staff with respect to certain issues or decisions being made, we ask that you respect the fact that we are doing what we feel is best overall, for our members and the community at large. We strive to remain a drama-free place; to this end, we ask that any complaints or appeals on this forum be made PRIVATELY, and allow our Staff reasonable time to respond to your concerns.​

Our goal is to maintain an ever-growing community of writers that enjoy Role-Playing in this genre as much as we do.​

REGISTRATION
  1. Erebos: House of Darkness has a 3-3-3 rating, meaning you must be 18 years of age or older, to register.​
  2. An OOC account is NOT required to sign up on this site, although if you wish to have one then by all means, go ahead. Otherwise, please sign up with an IC account instead, including the first and last name of your character - for example, Matthew Edick. You may include a middle name if you wish but keep in mind that the username field is limited to 20 letters or so.​
  3. There are no restrictions on how many characters you can have - however, we do ask that you only play as many characters as you can handle - without spreading yourself too thin.​

AGE AND CONTENT
  1. The minimum age for joining the community is 18. This is a mature role-playing forum environment which requires an equally mature handling of the content.​
  2. If we should learn that a member has committed fraud by lying about their age, the said member will be banned from the community without notice.​
  3. While this is a RP community full of vampires, there will be violence and sex as far as the eye can see. This does not mean our membership is permitted to post or link to explicit sexual content as pornography. This includes using pornographic images for your avatar and/or signature in your profile. This will not be tolerated and those who violate this rule will be disciplined at the discretion of the Staff.​
  4. Considering the content that may come up in the role-play on/off the forum, we want to remind our members of acting with respect toward others. Anyone seen harassing someone else due to the actions of their character will be disciplined a result at the discretion of the Staff. Neither harassment or disrupting community activities will be tolerated here.​

ROLE-PLAYING
  1. Character Applications must be completed within 14 days. If you require an extension, please contact our Staff. All applications must be approved prior to starting IC/RP threads.​
  2. Erebos is a hybrid RPG, combining VtM lore with its own unique mythos. As such, all characters must adhere to both, as provided. You may apply for original or (available) canon characters ONLY.​
  3. Your characters must be represented by real people. In some situations, the Staff will allow artwork that VERY CLOSELY resembles the real life celebrity (i.e., art imitating life - that kind of thing). Both characters and their respective Portrayals must be at least 18 years of age.​
  4. The RP environment of EREBOS calls for mutual respect among players. When in character, you can act as your character acts but do not use this as an excuse to push the boundaries of how you can act out-of-character (OOC) in the game.​

  6. ACTIVITY CHECKS: We will conduct those periodically (3-4 times a year). With respect to regular threads, please try to post at least once a week so not to leave your fellow writer(s) hanging. Special Events require more frequent posting, so keep an eye on how fast a given thread is moving to keep up. If you miss your turn more than twice in a row in a Special Event, your character will be removed from the thread.​
  7. Spamming in the role-play is prohibited - along with harassing members. It will be dealt by the Staff on case-by-case basis and may result in suspension and/or banning of the offending member - depending on the frequency of the infraction and the discretion of the Staff.​
  8. Role-play the character than you created. This shouldn't need to be said but we have all seen people who describe their character one way but play them as another. The Staff is open to characterization and changes but we do not believe a character’s core personality should change on a dime so early in a story – unless they have multiple personalities then by all means. We won’t warn or stop someone from doing that. This is merely a reminder.​
  9. Take your story seriously. Have fun molding out a story-line with yourself and others but take pride in what you create. Try to keep the story following and giving it your all as time goes on. This goes for both the forum and the game.​
  10. If you feel that a member has made a notable mistake, feel free to respectfully send them a Private Message in chat to assist them. Do not bully them or be mean-spirited about it.​
  11. Your characters may appear in as many threads as they like, as most character-driven events on this forum are considered 'liquid time', that is - while it may appear that several things are happening simultaneously - they are not necessarily doing so. Players are ENCOURAGED to use a Thread Tracker to keep a CHRONOLOGICAL order of events their characters participate in.​
  12. SPECIAL EVENTS. These are unique PLOTS where a Storyteller's presence is HEAVILY involved in the thread. Whether it be a masquerade ball, or an assassination conspiracy taking place, the Storyteller will be guiding the event by introducing and handling appropriate NPCs and making certain judgment calls, should any dispute(s) between players, arise (that cannot be resolved between those involved). Please be advised that due to the importance of these events (as they become Erebos Canon), your character may only be present within 1 Special Event thread at any given time until the it has concluded. Then you may enter another SE thread, at your leisure!​

CHARACTERS
  1. Erebos: House of Darkness community does not enforce a word count. By the same token, we ask that you be fair and considerate to your writing partner(s) - and return their effort and creativity, in kind.​
  2. IN CHARACTER posts must be written in 3rd person, past tense. Various forms of correspondence may be exempt from this rule, depending on their nature (common sense applies).​
  3. Threads containing mature content must feature [NSFW] following the title. If you wish for your NSFW thread to be visible only to you and your writing partner (but not all the other regular forum members), consider using the PRIVATE thread function (located in the upper right hand corner of your first post header) Unlimited PRIVATE threads may be created on this board, but be aware that these threads will be visible to the Forum Admins!​
  4. Please refrain from using font sizes, font types, and font colors that may be challenging to read.​
  5. Meta-gaming and god-modding are not permitted on this board and will result in disciplinary action. Taking control of someone's character is allowed only after your writing partner has approved the latter - and only to the degree that has been mutually agreed upon.​

COMMUNITY
This community intends to provide a warm, friendly atmosphere for its members. By participating on this forum, users are affirming their willingness to comply with our site rules, as stated below:




  1. Be respectful of others at all times. The purpose of this website is to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and offer a safe and fun role-playing environment for all. Occasionally, there will be conflicts that arise when people voice opinions. Be courteous when disagreeing with others. It is possible to disagree without being insulting.​
  2. No ranting, please. A rant is a post which is long-winded, redundant and filled with angry, non-constructive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and helpful in the development of a constructive discussion, but rants are disruptive and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise, clear manner and avoid going off on rambling tangents.​
  3. Personal attacks are unacceptable. Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts which are designed to personally berate or insult another. Text of this nature is not beneficial to the community spirit and will not be tolerated.​
  4. No posting of personal information. Please respect the privacy of fellow members and do not give out information such as phone numbers and addresses in public. Private communication between Staff and Community Members is not to be made public on these forums or by any other venue - unless both sides have given their express permission to do so.​

GRAPHICS
  1. All avatars used on this board must not exceed 192x192 - larger images will be automatically re-sized.​
  2. We ask that all Signatures measure no larger than 500 x 250. No Flash or animated GIFs, please. Vampire signatures MUST show their Generation, Clan, Disciplines and their respective Levels - like in this example, below:​

  3. All graphics that have not been created by you, must be given proper credit - either on your profile page, or at the bottom of your application - whichever you prefer.

DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS
  1. This site uses a Warning System available to all Moderating Staff. Should a member break Code of Conduct, he or she may be issued a warning via PM. Three or more warnings will result in suspension from the site. Ten warnings will warrant a permanent ban. Warnings expire every 30 days - they are not permanent.​
  2. Reasons for issuing a warning may include one or more, of the following behaviors: posting discriminatory content which is considered to be sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive; pornography; excessive obscene or vulgar language; content which discusses or illustrates illegal activity; providing links to sites that contain any of the aforementioned elements.​
  3. Each warning will incur 1 point which will expire in 1 month's time. In addition, a Private Message will be sent to the member, explaining why the warning has been issued/which site rule has been broken, etc.​
  4. Members may appeal Warnings via PMs (never argue about disciplinary action in a public thread or the shoutbox, etc.) Pending the outcome of the appeal, the warning may be lifted before the 30 days are up.​
