Hello All,

My name is Galen. I heard about this site from an rpg.net thread about D6 Star Wars.

I've been playing RPGS for 35 years in various forms. I've played normal stuff like D&D and esoteric stuff like Delta Green. I still have a weekly FtF gaming group. We've been playing together for 15 years. I'm actuve on a bunch of forum gaming sites like Mythweavers and RPOL.net and involved in a weekly Roll20 GURPS game.

I'm still getting my bearings here. I have not yet finished reading all the beginner docs, but that's next on my list. I did try to sign into the chat client from a mobile device. It didn't like my user ID and passcode, but I'll try again tonight on a WindBlows machine.

Welcome to the community Galen! We look forward to rping with you and getting to know you in general. I've been with this group for about 5-6 years now and I can tell you, while our group isn't the largest, it definitely feels like family. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line!

Also side note, you may have to register in the chat, separately from the forum login.

Hello, Galen - welcome to SW Odyssey! :D

It is always exciting to see a newcomer to our group, and especially one who plays tabletop! This place is our own version of a 'virtual tabletop on the WWW'. We have been coming here together since 2009 (under various guises as our site had undergone numerous transitions through the years), and although we are small, we are pretty devoted to our game and each other. The 'gang' as we affectionately call one another, is more like an extended family - and after all these years together, it's starting to feel like we've known each other all our lives.*chuckles*

At any rate, we hope you find that kind of sense of belonging here and if you're not looking for that - that's fine too - we respect privacy and encourage you to just be yourself. As for the beginner docs, they can be a lot to stomach all at once - so if anything is at any point unclear, feel free to address it here or via PM with me or any other GM (Q'Zayn is currently on leave).

The chat can be a little pest when trying to sign in from a mobile device - so when on your phone, I recommend just logging in as a guest/visitor (Username only, no password, click the guest checkbox at the bottom). Some of us have to do that also, when using our phones while at work (LOL) so it's no big. Another thing I would suggest in conjunction with getting acquainted with the site rules, is to drop by the Availability Thread and give us a general idea of when you can be around so we can better schedule events in the future.

Annnnd, I realize I've been talking a lot - so I best stop here. XD Hope to chat with you soon - looking forward to meeting you, Galen!

Thanks for the welcome. As some of you noticed, I managed to get into the chat. I'll try again later when I'm not supposed to be working.

Lana I appreciate your advocacy for this site as it gives me another place to play.

Galen,

Welcome to SWO! I'm Davin, the Head Game Master for our group. I have been involved with online D6 SWRPG for 15 years, and have been a GM for around 13 of them. Please let myself or another GM know if you need anything, or if you have any questions at all about our group, rules, website, or literally anything else. I will be more than happy to help you in any way I can, and so will everyone else, I guarantee it.

We hope you find our particular brand of SWRPG exciting and fun. It's designed to work well in a chat-based format, and to provide a highly exciting, emotionally engaging, cinematic experience. We've also taken great pains to ensure that anyone can play and have fun, regardless of their experience with RPGs. Our system, much like base SWRPG, is very easy to learn and play, but don't let it's simplicity fool you. Our particular flavor contains an enormous depth that even the most hardcore RPG junkie can really enjoy. On top of that, we have designed our game format around the concept of long-term character growth, without stifling the excitement for new players. We feel this creates a virtual world in which all participants, and even observers, can truly connect to the characters in a way that other game and media formats simply cannot duplicate.

That said, there's really only 3 documents you need to read to get started.

Introduction to SWO
How to Play!
Creating a Character

We do not recommend that you build your character sheet right away, nor on your own. This is actually your first act of 'playing' the game, by crafting the character you will play in this universe. So we ask that you be patient with us and with yourself, by allowing the GM staff and other players to guide you through your character creation process. This is one way for us to start to get to know each other, and best ensures you will enjoy the game.

You might wonder why there are not a lot of rules pages? It's simple. The more complex the rules, the less freedom the players have to make the game fun in the way they want. Thus, the rest of the game is best learned by participation. The rules we do have form the basic mechanics of how you control your character in the fictional universe... but ultimately, the most important factor as what you can or choose to do, is purely based upon the creativity of YOU, the player.

Please send me a PM, or get with anyone in the Chat, whenever you are ready to take your first step into a larger world!
