Character Bio: Born out of a one night stand between Captain Maeve Jeer of the Starship the Glass Arrow, and rival captain of the Centurion, Bal Forlin, Leta’s earliest, barely remembered years were spent with her mother aboard her ship. When she was three, her father learned of her existence and kidnapped her. Bal claimed to have destroyed the Arrow then and there, it was the story he told Leta her entire life, but the only record of the Glass Arrow’s destruction she ever found was for ten years later, when she was thirteen.

Her life aboard the Centurion was presumably normal for a smuggler child, although she didn’t have anyone to compare notes to. Most of the crew doted on her, taught her how to fight and repair ships and on one particularly interesting occasion, how to “get the girl.” The crew of the Centurion were the largest reason why she stayed in the smuggling business, after parting with her father.

Bal Forlin wasn’t a particularly affectionate man, which didn’t usually bother Leta when she had so many other men and women who were, and happy to take her under their wing. But, since she was small, she always felt a little different from everyone else. At first, she couldn’t describe the strange things that would happen to her, but as she got older, and listened more to the stories of the crew, she started to think she was force sensitive. When her father found out, he became furious, and after that, constantly insisted that she was making it up, or playing pretend.

Leta continued to hold out hope in secret, even though she never could figure out how to do the things the Jedi could. Without a teacher, her thoughts of the force became a fantasy, an escape to the worlds beyond the Centurion’s path that she explored in the privacy of her own mind. Every so often she’d still try to move things with her mind, but nothing ever came of it. As she got older, the hope that she was special got dimmer and dimmer.

That is, until she found a kyber crystal on the black market.

It was badly cracked, probably the only reason why she could afford the thing at all, but the moment she saw it she knew it was something special. The man who sold it to her grinned when she spotted it, like she was something special and said, “do you know what those do, child?”

For the two years following her purchase Leta did her best to find the other parts of a lightsaber on the black market, hiding them from her father. She had to know for certain, if she really wasn’t anything important.

She wasn’t.

At sixteen, she had scrounged together all the parts, but when she powered it up, it exploded in a liquid-hot ball of plasma that burned her hands and chest to raw meat. Well, cooked meat. When her father saw her, he brought her out in front of the crew, laughing, telling them all what a worthless dreamer she was. Although the crew did their best to soften the blow, her father put her to work, hard, using every opportunity to “knock those kriffed dreams” out of her head.

A few months later she moved off the Centurion to seek her own fortunes, looking to cut her teeth on more difficult work, and escape her father. She served as a cook, a gunner, spare muscle, navigator and more on a dozen different ships, trying to save up money to buy her own someday. It did her no good in the long run; the first budget ship she bought turned out to be a dud, and after that her drinking started to eat away at her savings.

From about twenty-seven on, she worked to drink, running from the pain in her chest and in her mind. She’d traveled half the galaxy by the time she was thirty-two, chasing odd jobs that paid less and less.

Her salvation came in the form of an old friend, the Centurion’s doctor, Jao Bionte. He found her in a bar on the casino starship she’d been working on, getting wasted on the cheapest cocktails she could afford. He was the one who dragged her back to his new ship and got her sober for the first time, kicking and screaming. To this day he still has her back, despite all her relapses and misadventures.

Personality: Leta’s the kind of person who’s always running the risk of falling one step behind for one reason or another. A victim of many get rich quick scams in her youth, she’s really only come into her own as a person in her thirties, when she started staying sober for longer periods of time. Her long term mentor, Jao Bionte taught her the value of kindness by example, and she tries to follow in his footsteps, no matter where it leads her. Leta’s the first one to lend a hand and the last one to leave an emergency.

She doesn’t have much in the way of self confidence; in her mind she’s clumsy, unintelligent, and a bit boring to be around. She was more interesting when she was drinking, she says often. The one thing she does have faith in is her ability to get out of trouble. No matter the tight spot, she always turns out alright, if a little roughed up.

At this stage in her life she seeks all the things she wandered through before in a drunken haze; she’s seen half the galaxy and remembers maybe a quarter of it. Leta will never turn down a meal, or a trip to the market so she can make the meal, or a long walk somewhere. She dreams of having her own ship, any kind, any job, just as long as she can go where she chooses, when she chooses.

Pros:

+Kind, Actively Friendly

+Quick Thinking, Resourceful

+Perceptive, Insightful

Cons:

-Low Self Esteem, Self Sabotages

-Willfully Gullible, Operates on benefit of the doubt to the point of detriment

I've skimmed over the character, and rather like the juxtapositions in the backstory. I'll be reviewing the actual sheet in the coming days, since a quick glance shows there's room to flesh out the Force skills (or some other arrangement), as well as room for a few additional positive traits.

I'll post here once I've gone of the sheet in greater detail, but so far, I really like it!

Okay, I've done some quick and dirty math (the SGM or the HGM are free to backstop my math, and I actually prefer they do), and noticed you still have some room to use. As a veteran character, you get some bonuses to your character creation, as follows:

All VETERAN Status Characters receive:
1 "Free" Advanced Skill
35 Regular skills
24D (72 pips) Attribute Dice for their 6 Regular Attributes
10D (30 pips) skill dice to upgrade Regular and Advanced Skills.

I counted up your skills, and counting ADV. skills as two skills, you came up to 35 regular skills. This leaves you short, as you can take another ADV. skill for free or two more regular skills, as you get one ADV. skill for free. Next, of those 24D (72 pips) for your Attribute Dice for your six Regular Attributes, you have only used 11 of the 24 you're entitled. And finally, the 10D (30 pips) skill dice to upgrade your Regular and Advanced Skills, you've only used 7D of the 10D allotted.

I did not check Force Powers, as Raine told me you're purposely limiting your Force Powers as the character does not know she is a Force Sensitive. This is fine with me, so I won't bother with that. I did want you to know you have some more room to play with though for your regular attributes, in case you wanted to.

Then again, I could be entirely wrong and screwed up the math. Either way though, I think the background of the character is amazeballs. :D

Regardless, you get my....

Okay, going over the math again....

Checking...

Checking......

Getting distracted by YouTube.......

Going back to the math........

Okay, so you still have some remaining dice to use. 9D left out of the 24D for attributes and 1D left out of the 10D for skills. The 9D is fine if you want to start out as a stunted character. That remaining 1D for skills though, I'd recommend immensely taking that remaining 1D and putting it into Willpower. It's a rather important skill and having that on the low side can come back to bite you in the ass. Which isn't a good thing...well unless you like that... *cough*

So for me, I think the sheet is good as is. Aside from a few things that you would need to roll for with the HGM or SGM, I think she's good to go.

A high Willpower is always a good thing to have. Considering who we are fighting. What skills you cant fit in here, you can always learn from others in the group.

Alright, fixed up my skills, boosted my attributes... I think I have one dice left for attributes, but I'll leave it that way.

Ok, the math on the Attributes needs to be adjusted. Sorry for the confusion.

Please see the Character Creation rules under Advanced Placement, here: [Essential Basics] Creating a Character

All VETERAN Status Characters receive:
  • 1 "Free" Advanced Skill (Marked with ADV.)
  • 35 Regular skills
  • 24D (72 pips) Attribute Dice for their 6 Regular Attributes (Dex, Str, Kno, Per, Mech, Tech)
  • 10D (30 pips) skill dice to upgrade Regular and Advanced Skills. (Skills start at base attribute, and go up from there)

Force Sensitives receive:
  • Start at Padawan rank
  • 10D Force Attribute Dice (2D minimum in each)
  • Up to 10 Force Powers (This is not required, you can start with as few as 1. I am willing to allow exchanging Force Powers for Regular Skills)
  • Basic Lightsaber (or other appropriate weapon)

Currently you are using 34D for Attributes, rather than the allotted 24D.
Force Attributes are currently using 7D of the 10D you are allotted. Each Force attribute must be a minimum of 2D.
You are also using 37 Skills ( 31 Regular, and 3 Advanced (x2) Skills) which appears to be correct, BUT....
...However, You've given up 8 Force Powers, which if unchanged, brings your allotment of regular skills up to 43
...so you can pick up 6 more Regular skills' worth of additional normal skills, or additional Force Powers.
There are 10D of Skill Dice applied above attribute level, so this appears to be accurate (but the die levels will need to adjust with the attributes.)
One minor point: Force Sensitive characters begin with 3 FP, rather than 1.

Wait, she doesn't get the 2D minimum for her race for free? LOL And that's why I wanted someone to check my math. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Unless I just suck at math, it looks like you're still 4D too high for the attributes. But as I've demonstrated, I'm not the best person to listen to when it comes to character creation LOL.

Sorry for the delay, I thought that the force attribute dice were part of the normal attribute dice. I changed things!

Okay, some more quick and dirty stuff. I'm probably wrong because Math is the Devil, but that's why we have an SGM and an HGM.

So here...

we...

go...

All VETERAN Status Characters receive:
1 "Free" Advanced Skill (Marked with ADV.) (check)
35 Regular skills (check)
24D (72 pips) Attribute Dice for their 6 Regular Attributes (Dex, Str, Kno, Per, Mech, Tech) (check)
10D (30 pips) skill dice to upgrade Regular and Advanced Skills. (Skills start at base attribute, and go up from there) (check)

Force Sensitives receive:
Start at Padawan rank (at Initiate level due to background, check)
10D Force Attribute Dice (2D minimum in each) (only 1D in Alter. Recommend Dropping Sense to 4D and Alter to 2D to meet minimums, unless approved by HGM)
Up to 10 Force Powers (This is not required, you can start with as few as 1. I am willing to allow exchanging Force Powers for Regular Skills) (Enhance Attribute is at 5D. Think it's supposed to be at 4D like it's parent attribute. Though as she has fewer than the 10 Force Powers, I don't have a problem with this. Up to HGM or SGM approval.)
Basic Lightsaber (or other appropriate weapon) (DH-17 instead of lightsaber, check)

So we're getting there. Your traits are also at 0 or below, so those are good to go.

I think with the changes suggested in red above, it would probably work fine and be approved.

I believe that means he said 'YES'! :D Welcome, twice welcome - Leta! :D

A couple of quick observations before you get started:

1. Did you want me to change your Username over to Leta Forlin? I believe you can do that yourself (in your account control panel), but if you'd rather I do it, let me know.

2. You can upload a character avatar to your profile at any time. If you require any assistance with this, give me a shout. :D
