Character Bio
Sulia Feldyr was born into a highly traditional family on Mirial. Although technically a member of the Republic, remoteness and local anti-republic sentiment made it easy for her parents to avoid giving up their child to Jedi Seekers, insisting Sulia be raised in the traditional Mirialan Force religion. As tensions in the Galaxy ratcheted up during her childhood, she became increasingly active and supportive of her planetary government. When it seceded to join the Confederacy of Independent Systems, she immediately signed on to defend its rights.

Her service during the Clone Wars wasn't quite as glorious as she imagined - droids did most of the fighting, she was too young and inexperienced to carry significant responsibility, and she made a terrible acolyte for Tyranus. As much as she believed in the cause, and had been beguiled by Dooku before the war, she often found herself questioning his actions during it (outright objecting to some privately, such as the enslavement of the Mon Calamari), given how Mirialan tradition suggested the Cosmic Force shaped his destiny. Accordingly, she was relegated further and further into obscure, backwater posts. This spared her the deadly notice of Sidious, but she feared Tyranus would soon come to execute her for her failure. Fortunately, Dooku went and got himself killed assaulting Coruscant before he could do that.

Unfortunately, the Confederacy suddenly evaporated immediately thereafter. That was just great. Now, there she was, all the way out in the Western Reaches, the decapitated CIS forces were crumbling... and it's not like she could just lay down arms, especially not after the Jedi Purge. Somehow, she didn't fancy her prospects as a force-sensitive non-human enemy combatant to make it clear across the Galaxy back to her resource-depleted, Empire-occupied homeworld.

So she kept on fighting, partly out of hatred for what the Empire was purposely doing to the Galaxy's non-humans, but more out of desperation than anything else. Her backwater unit was still intact, and for two more years they held Tarkin at bay as he pushed them further down the Great Gran Run... until finally, he had them cornered at the Battle of Halm. Imperial forces had her surrounded, blocking off all hyperlanes, and her ship was going down around her...

"She's gonna blow!"
The ship shudders as turbolasers pierce its failing shields. An explosion sweeps the command deck, and a holo crackles to life.
"This is Moff Tarkin. There is no escape. Stand down your vessel immediately or be destroyed."
Sulia hauls hersef to her feet, and, seeing no one else standing, smiles sweetly into the pickup. "I'm not sure I could bear the stench of your company, I'm afraid, what with all the bodies in your holding cells."
"That's almost amusing, coming from a war criminal such as yourself. Nevertheless--"
Sulia mutes the holo, clenching her teeth. "We have to get out of here!"
The OOM droid at the helm looks to a crumpled form for confirmation. "Uhhh... the commander's dead. Who's in charge?"
A command draid responds, "I think she is."
"Feldyr? But she was demoted, she's only a--"

"Alive, aren't I? Hands up who's not dead or a droid." Sulia raises her hand. "There, see?"
"Ahhh... recomputing. Sulia Feldyr is acting captain."
"Roger roger. Orders, captain Feldyr?"
"JUMP!" She points, the Force guiding her finger north towards a patch of black sky.
"The charts don't show any routes in--."
"I don't care! They don't show any known stars, either, do they? Do it. NOW!"

Her battered ship aligned itself, Tarkin's resumed firing... and Sulia's lurched into hyperspace without full calculation. It was only supposed to be a short jump, to get them off the battlefield... but Sulia had unwittingly sent them on a course straight into the Unknown Regions. The hyperdrive refused to drop them back into normal space for several nerve-wracking hours, until finally it was forced to exit upon the detection of a mass shadow. The ship burst out of hyperspace, systems failing, and crash-landed on a nearby planet, finishing off not only the ship, but -- at least as far as Sulia could determine -- its astrographical records of how it got to the Unknown Regions in the first place.

Resigned to her fate, Sulia began to try and make her way in the new society she found herself in, finding work where she could as a hired gun.... or hired saber, to wealthier, more discreet clients. From the crash site, she made way to Ptolus, and from there to the Halcyon Alliance.

Amongst the Halcyons she was able to find a place for herself, of sorts. There may not have been as many droids to look after, but hunting beasts was certainly a thing she could do, and she found the Halycon custom of building up a personal legend in order to rise through society to be comfortingly similar to the Mirialan one of recording personal accomplishments in tattoos which elevate one's social rank. She could never be entirely at home with the prideful Halcyonites, however. And although her more unique skills came in handy with shadier groups in neighboring Albion, so too did they frequently land her in trouble with the authorities there...

Personality
On the surface, Sulia is curious and collected. Beneath that facade, however, the darkness keeps her blaming herself for her many failures, angry with herself for being deceived by Dooku, numb to the various horrors she witnessed (or, as it tells her, facilitated) during the war, and feeds off the great pain she carries around for all that she has lost, despite fighting so hard for so long.

Somewhere, deeper down than that, however, the bright-eyed idealist Sulia was in her youth lurks, looking for causes to believe in or something to hope for. Her particular brand of idealism is all about self-determination. Just as her parents demanded their right to raise Sulia as they wished, and as she in her youth fought for her planet's right to go its own way in the Galaxy, she has a deep and abiding hatred of those who seek to control or enslave others.

Story Factors
Tribal Tattoos: Mirialans have tribal tattoos all over their face and bodies. The more elaborate the tattoo the greater the task that was completed. Mirialans gain tattoos all of their lives, each time they complete a task they receive another tattoo. The application of these tattoos is very painful, it is considered to be great disrespect when a Mirialan is afraid to receive or will not accept one. Despite currently being cut off from Mirialan society, Sulia continues to honour this tradition, incorporating it into her assimilation into her adopted Halcyon community.

The Mirialan people were religious and practiced a primitive understanding of the Force. They believed each individual`s actions contributed to their destiny. A Mirialan would place a unique, often geometrically repeated tattoo on their face and hands to signify that they had completed a certain test or task (like simple tasks to became adulthood) or achieved sufficient adeptness at a certain skill. The number of tattoos would thus often act as a good indicator of how mature and/or skilled a Mirialan was.

My favorite non-Twi'lek in the whole universe. She inspired me to stop hiding in alleys, and get on with my life. Violently... yes... the blood... yes... bodies... yes... screams... yes... oh joyous screams... but that's not her fault. She is wonderful. She reduces their pain while they die. She saved me and my Memento of Great Importance from strange men. Men, yes... with their grabby hands... decorate their flesh with my blade... yes... hours of screams... yes. But, no. No! NO! Not anymore. She is here again.

Now Sulia can teach me a better way. Less blood. No screams. Kindness. Friendship. Help my allies. They'll protect me. They have no grabby hands... bloody hands... no... Sulia is here now. Sulia's Jedi have been good to me, so I will help them. Their enemies though... so much blood... oceans of blood... screams... no!

No. I am better now. Sulia and her Jedi will teach me to control my emotions, as she has learned to control hers. I will care for my allies as they have cared for me. Follow their example. Yes. No more body totems. Kindness. Heroism. Healing. Peace. Pieces... I will leave their enemies in pieces... bloody little pieces... painlessly? With great kindness?
